Dick Davidson was the founder of the SDCKA in 1981; He and a small number of South Dakota canoe enthusiasts set out to explore the area's waterways and share their knowledge and experience with others. The charter created by the founding members was aimed at promoting events, paddling trips, supporting conservation and recreation and always welcome anyone interested in canoeing. Over the years and the with the growth of kayaking, the organization has grown in numbers and activities.
Today, The South Dakota Canoe & Kayak Association has grown to become the area’s premier paddling group.
We’re proud to be a resource for all skill levels to promote safety, education, conservation and most of all; paddling adventures in the great outdoors!
For Missouri River expedition paddlers, many SDCKA members are able to assist you to help assure safe passage or supplies while you conquer Lake Oahe, Lake Sharpe and Lewis and Clark Lake and beyond!
